Image of Molise accommodation

Molise

Molise formed only recently after it split from the Abruzzo region in 1963. It is directly south of Abruzzo and its capital is Campobasso.

Not many English-speaking travelers make it to Molise, which is a pity. The modern-day visitor to Molise will find a verdant and well-forested territory in which numerous small medieval hamlets and large castles are nestled. The few large towns and cities remain unspoiled by mass tourism, the people are open and friendly, and the cuisine is strongly regional.

Molise has some fabulous places to see and there are few tourists to spoil the perfect photo in:
• Agnone – Famous for its church bells
• Castel San Vincenzo – See the town’s artificial lake and take in the stunning panoramic views
• Sepino – Check out the archeological site of the Samnite town, Saepins, in Torrevecchia from the 4th century BC
• Termoli – A popular seaside resort for Italians
• Pietrabbondante – Samnite ruins at over 1000m/3280ft above sea level
• Isernia – Visit the Fontana Fraterna, a fountain in the city center made out of ancient Roman ruins.
Staying in a monastery or convent guest house in Molise is a unique alternative to mainstream hotel accommodation. Open to all, these guest houses give you a true insight in to life in Molise - a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of Molise and experience a hospitality tradition that has been around for 1500+ years.
