Situated in the peaceful Monte Verde / Trastevere area, this guest house offers warm and homely hospitality. A well located and accessible guest house and a true Italian experience in a famous Italian city.
Well located to the sites of central Rome, near the lovely Trastevere area.
Rated 4.7 out of 5
It was nice having a private bathroom, but being across the hall was a little inconvenient. Nuns did their best to accommodate requests. They had a kitchen we could use with fridge & microwave. And they even had an iron that I could use to iron a dress shirt with. Monastery was a nice quiet place to go back to. Tram into center of town was convenient.
This convent is operated by the Figlie del Sacro Cuore di Gesù.
The beautiful, clean environment on the inside is complemented by the relaxing garden surrounding the guesthouse. The small chapel is also ideal for a moment of quiet reflection.
Breakfast is included in the price. There are many dining options within walking distance of the venue.

The Staff at Villa San Giuseppe shows real empathy with your needs and requests. They helped me a lot with tight schedules and provided helpful information about the trastevere area and downtown Rome too. I highly recommend this Villa to those looking for a nice —and very well connected—place to stay.
Afshin - REGI?N METROPOLITANA, Chile (June 2023)
We loved our stay! The room was cute and very clean. On the last morning we needed to leave quite early but we were accommodated with a delicious breakfast nonetheless. The nuns were so lovely and generous! Highly recommend :)
Erica - QC, Canada (June 2023)
I had a nice time at Villa San Giuseppe. It is about 45 min walking to Trastevere, which is a fun neighborhood. Once I figured out the public transportation system, I used that. At the villa itself, the rooms were very clean, the nuns were super nice, and I enjoyed using the rooftop terrace.

I had a wonderful stay here while I was visiting Rome. The sisters were all very warm, hospitable, and patient with my limited Italian. The room was immaculate, and was kept that way throughout my stay. The neighborhood it's in, Trastevere, is a nice spot that's away from the noise and frenzy of downtown Rome, although next time I might choose to stay a little closer in order to shorten the time it takes to get into town (about a half hour by bus). I would definitely recommend this guest house.

This was our second stay as a couple, and we brought 4 friends. The sisters' hospitality was outstanding. They made us feel valued as guests and even allowed us to have an evening picnic on the roof terrace. Although the villa building is showing signs of wear and tear, this venue is still outstanding value for holidaymakers with simple tastes and some basic conversational Italian. The local shops include a good supermarket, bakery and greengrocer's. Convenient location for public transport into and out of the city.

The nuns were wonderful and very accomodating! The area is very quiet and leafy, but easily accessible by bus, and walking distance from major sites. The rooms are clean, quiet and look out over a leafy garden. The breakfast was a perfect simple start to the day, and they make great coffee! There are busses to termini close by, and walking to the Trastevere station isn’t too taxing if you’re travelling light. There’s no curfew, but if you plan on staying out after 11pm you need to ask for a key to get back in because the nuns are in bed by then

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa San Giuseppe. The staff were helpful and friendly and the accommodations clean and comfortable. We managed to communicate with Rina who was the person we talked with most often in Spanish. She was instrumental in getting us a cab for our 4:30 AM trip to the airport and she was up to see us off. The monastery is very close to the number 8 tram line which goes to the center of Rome and connects to the number 3 which goes to the Forum so getting around was a snap.
Carol - WA, United States (May 2019)
We had a wonderful stay with the sisters at Villa San Giuseppe. They were delightful, very gracious and helpful with directions, restaurants. Breakfast included fresh rolls with butter and jam, yogurt, toast, coffee and tea. The number 8 tram from Trastevere Station will bring you within a few blocks of the Villa.
Dale - PA, United States (October 2018)
The stay was perfect, away from the actual centre of Rome but very easy with the public transport to navigate into the city. The accommodation was ideal with the added bonus of the roof terrace and lovely garden all made the stay beautiful and tranquil. Lovely pizzeria nearby amongst other local eateries. The sisters were so welcoming and friendly and really made our stay so enjoyable, despite my lack of Italian. I would definitely return to this lovely warm hospitable Villa.
Amanda - North Yorkshire, United Kingdom (October 2016)
Stay was perfect. Sisters know no English, but we communicated in Spanish. They were very accommodating. Loved our Monastery Stays experience.
The sisters were very friendly and helpful. Location is situated in a quiet area in Monteverde.
Martin - , Austria (October 2015)
We loved our stay at Villa San Giuseppe. We loved Rome also and wished we had stayed longer. The nuns were absolutely delightful and made us feel at home and very welcome. We hope very much to return.
Terence - Wairarapa, New Zealand (June 2015)
Our stay at Villa San Giuseppe was better than I expected. I would like to thank the sisters for their kindness and hospitality. The rooms were very clean with plenty of storage space. The house was beautifully decorated both inside and outside in the garden. I would recommend this guest house without hesitation.
Sylvia - CA, United States (May 2015)
We LOVED Villa San Giuseppe. The sisters were welcoming and helpful. They didn't speak English, but we got along with my rusty Spanish (two of the sisters speak Spanish) and my husband's passable Italian. It's in a true Roman neighborhood - quiet, with local people and businesses, and quite pretty. Still, it's very accessible to Tram and to buses and trains that can take you anywhere in Rome. And yet, we came home almost every night to eat in the neighborhood (Monteverde), usually less than 5 blocks in any direction from the guesthouse. The food was great, the energy lower key, and we liked getting to know our little neighborhood.
The guesthouse itself was wonderful. The breakfast of Italian bread, espresso or cappuccino (or cafelatte), spreads, and yogurt was simple and good. The roof garden was lovely for relaxing and convenient for hanging out laundry. The garden is beautiful, but was a bit buggy for relaxing in. The bathroom was gorgeous with a steady hot shower, plentiful towels, and lots of room for your stuff.
We stayed here for a luxurious two weeks and felt it was our home away from home. We'd go back in a minute.
Heidi - IL, United States (October 2014)
An excellent place - clean rooms. The nuns speak little English but are very kind and are extremely helpful. The place is well connected. The tram line 8(display on the tram should read Piazza Venezia) takes you to Piazza Venezia (around 15-20 min). Its the last stop of the tram and is central to getting to several key monuments. The Colosseum is 5 min walking distance from here as is the Trevi Fountain. Bus Number 64 from Piazza Venezia gets you to the Vatican just outside the St.Peter's Basilica(stop St.Pietro Vaticano). To return back take the bus 64 from the Vatican to Piazza Venezia. From there take the tram no 8 again(display on the tram should read Casaletto which is the last stop ). Finally to get to the Termini Bus/Train station from the Hotel , take the bus no. H. It is about 45 minutes to Termini from the hotel.
Nester - Karnataka, India (October 2014)
Had a lovley time. The nuns were very welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend.
Chris - Devon, United Kingdom (October 2013)
A wonderful monastery situated in the heart of Roman neighborhood. Nice and kind sisters, though they only speak Spanish and Italian. The monastery's location is a bit off the hot visit destinations, but the no. 8 Tram is handy, and the location provides the inner view of what Roman real life is like.
Ooi Lu - NS, Malaysia (October 2013)
Recommended 100%. Loved our time here. Cleanest rooms I've ever seen, easy tram ride to/from Piazza Venezia and Trastevere train station, such a nice place for the price, such kind, welcoming people. As we were leaving our friend was arriving and we booked her there too and she loves it as well. Wi-Fi would have been nice as I had to carry my computer around trying to find internet points around the city, but that's literally my only complaint and is kind of a silly one really.
Daniel - WA, United States (June 2013)
The nuns were gracious, friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome indeed. The breakfast was poor, but we were prepared for that. We were generally very satisfied and would consider going to the same convent again.
Susan - , Netherlands (May 2013)
My mother and I had a wonderful time at the Villa San Giuseppe. The nuns could not have been more gracious and helpful. No one spoke much English, but that have me a chance to practice my very poor Italian. Everything was clean and quiet. The villa is a bit far from the city center, but a tram stop and bus stop was only a few minutes walk away so access to all the sites was not a problem.
Michael - MD, United States (March 2013)
Lovely gardens and had use of a small kitchen! Perfect for me. Took tram or the bus in everyday (only 10 mins to Trastevere) Great place!
Stephanie - London, United Kingdom (May 2012)
Absolutely excellent accommodation very close to historic centre of Rome. Nuns who run this monastery are incredibly friendly and very helpful making you feel at home. Thank you very much for everything.
Andrej - Berkshire, United Kingdom (April 2012)
The Sisters who run the Monastery were wonderful.
Terry - IN, United States (October 2011)
Wonderful. Will be recommending it to many people.
Heather J - WA, United States (August 2011)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a comfortable, and spotlessly clean room. we were made very welcome, and every facility was made available to us. Those in charge were friendly and helpful.
Margaret - -, South Africa (June 2011)
Loved Rome, Rooms were perfect and service was exellent. Sisters were so kind that my faith in the Church has been reaffirmed.I will pray for the Sisters continued health.
Michael - NJ, United States (May 2011)
I was thrilled with my stay, the sisters were so helpful and welcoming. Although the room was quite small, it was comfortable and very clean. The location is very handy to the tram so it is far enough out of the city to experience the 'real Rome' rather than the touristy front, yet close enough to go into the city everyday to see all the big sights!
Paula - New South Wales, Australia (April 2011)
The sisters running the facility were so nice. Our room was really nice as well- very clean and comfortable.
Erin - IN, United States (May 2010)
Accomodations were above my expectations. Very clean & comfortable room. Nice breakfast. Very economical.
Dawn - NC, United States (October 2009)
The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The sisters were wonderful and very accommodating. The "cardinal's hat" bread and coffee breakfasts were delicious. Everything was good. Charming, charming, charming.
Richard - IL, United States (October 2008)
Clean and furnished well for an overnight stay. Breakfast was excellent for the meal we expected.
Very accommodating in finding taxis and restaurants. In spite of no Italian on our part and no English on theirs. Their home was beautiful.
David - RI, United States (October 2008)
It was lovely and clean, the nuns were very kind, and it was nice and quiet. we felt safe there.
The price was reasonable, and as christians we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. breakfast was sparse (the cappacinos were delicious, but every day, the same big crusty roll with butter and jam. it would have been nice to have an offering of fresh fruit, or cereal or cheese :)
Also, no English spoken, which was okay, but would be helpful if they had info re buses to take into downtown.
patricia - Ontario, Canada (September 2008)
Very nice people at the monastery, fine and clean rooms.
Ã…mund - , Norway (May 2008)
The Sisters were wonderful, welcoming and didn't speak any English but were always friendly and we managed very well. Beautiful setting, warm welcome, lovely room - small but comfortable. The convent was spotless and it was very nice to have access to the chapel. Everything was wonderful!
Maureen - CA, United States (April 2008)
Nice and clean, good heating on the room.
Comfortable beds. Quite a lot of noice from the other rooms- especially in the morning.
Lisa Mari - , Norway (January 2008)
Good value, clean and comfortable. The Nuns were very helpful even without English-Italian communication.
The basic breakfast, bread rolls & coffee, were an added benefit, no need to find breakfast before starting the day.
