House of the Monaci BenedettiniThis convent is one of the most beautifully presented in Umbria, combining outstanding religious hospitality with a fantastic environment to create a truly unforgettable experience.By far the biggest attraction in Ferntillo is in the Church of San Stefano. Underneath the church is the "Mummy Museum", where there are a number of well preserved bodies. The bottom of the church was used as a tomb from the early 16th century, and with the cool climate of the area and the tombs being underground, the bodies are remarkably well preserved. ServicesThis monastery is operated by the Monaci Benedettini.Several rooms offer views to the surrounding Nera Valley, while others (which date back to the 12th Century) overlook the nearby town of Umbriano. The restaurant on site ("Il Cantico") uses fresh produce and traditional recipes to create some brilliant authentic Italian cuisine. Paired perfectly with a wide range of Italian wines from the region and other parts of the country. FeaturesGetting AroundSituated on Monte Solenne (Mount Solemn), it is surrounded by green rolling hills and has spectacular views of the Nera Valley.HistoryNearly all the rooms available to guests are the original rooms lived in by the Benedictine Monks who initially lived in the convent.Benefits of Booking with Monastery Stays
