Mario was more than helpful and even ran us to the station on the last day.
The other problem was nothing to do with the stay - there were no taxis at the station and one needed a card to ring their number and we finished up walking with our suitcases up all those steps to the monastery- fortunately I had looked on the internet how to get to it.
This monastery is operated by the Franciscan Friars.

I had been told monasteries offer basic but spacious and clean accommodation. Our stay certainly provided that therefore it matched our expectations. It was clean, spacious, quiet, good hot shower and significantly cheaper than other accommodation available in the area. It was close to town and the 600 steps to and from town helped compensate for the pasta. Access to our room was the major problem. On arrival the door was locked and there was no one around. The only way we were able to access our room was to chase someone who drove in 2 hours later. The beds were a little hard but we got used to it. Neither of these issues would stop us from staying in a monastery again.
Bruce S - New South Wales, Australia (May 2009)
We have stayed in monasteries before and knew what to expect. The room was clean, the staff (Marcos) most helpful and friendly, especially with sightseeing suggestions and restaurants. When we arrived, it was difficult to figure out where to go in the monastery as there were no signs posted. Eventually, we met other guests who helped us get situated until Marcos returned. The monastery is well situated in Levanto, and Marcos was wonderful. Guests would feel right at home.
