There are many attractions in the town itself, including five beautiful churches, and many large, luxurious villas scattered around the suburbs. Relaxing in a restaurant or in a traditional Italian tavern is a perfect way to spend a cool night in the city, winding down after a day of sightseeing. Other areas of interest around San Giorgio a Cremano include the many sights of the Sorrentine Peninsula, and off the coast to the stunning isle of Capri. The towns on the peninsula well worth a visit include Castellammare di Stabia, Vicolo Equense and Sorrento (it is from Sorrento where Capri can be reached by boat). A trip to Campania would not be complete without a visit to one of the famous ruined cities surrounding Mount Vesuvius. With the most notable being Pompeii, this is a fascinating experience and an insight into the eruption in 79A.D. that devastated the area.
