House of the Suore della Compagnia di Maria Nostra Signora
Monastero San Lodovico is ideally located in the magnificent heart of Orvieto, immerse yourself in a rich history, beautiful cloisters and ancient frescoes. Welcoming hospitality, well presented facilities and great dining options nearby.
One of the most interesting and historic cities in the country. Orvieto is a major vineyard region, famed for its white wines of Grechetto and Trebbiano grapes.
The town's 13th century Duomo Cathedral and San Brizio Chapel is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, impeccably maintained both inside and out.
The most fascinating site in Orvieto is its underground city, open to the public for guided tours. This labyrinth of passages, stairs, rooms, cellars and wells was used by noble families to siege's many years ago. It took some 2500 years of digging to complete the amazing tunnels.

The sisters were very friendly and hospitable. They gave us a tour of the monastery and were always available to let us through the monastery gate. Each morning we received a very satisfactory breakfast, including delicious Italian coffee. We heartily recommend a stay!
This convent is operated by the Suore della Compagnia di Maria Nostra Signora.
The building itself is beautiful with the entrance hall dating back to the late 1700s. It is elegant and grand with a truly bewildering history and architectural style. The treasure that is this venue is well conserved making it a great place to stay.
Tuesday to Friday mass is held 7:15-8:00am. Guests can access chapel at all times for private prayer and view the original Renaissance & Baroque art pieces restored by the Sisters.
Breakfast is included in the price.

Just what I was looking for. Simple, quiet, and well-situated in town. Breakfast was quite basic, but otherwise everything was just how I had envisioned it might be.
Matthew - WY, United States (April 2019)
The Sisters are very gracious.
Br. Peter - RM, Italy (April 2019)
This Orvieto monastery is excellent & I will use it again, if affordable.
Linda T. - MA, United States (March 2019)
Lovely stay! Beautiful building, clean and pleasant room, and friendly & helpful staff person at front desk.
Ann-Lis - NY, United States (October 2018)
Very different type of stay. Sisters made us feel very welcome Great location
Taya - Victoria, Australia (July 2016)
A very interesting place, with a good and very kind service.

There are two sisters who run the whole place, neither speak English. One is very hospitable, the other quite unfriendly. There is a secretary who comes in during some day time hours who is helpful. It seemed like I was the only person there, which was strange. WiFi is frustrating, because you have to sign in every two minutes - it keeps cutting out. But, all said and done, it is a lovely place.
Alison - British Columbia, Canada (June 2016)
Friendly, great location, interesting Convent and gardens.
Christopher - Queensland, Australia (October 2015)
This was by far the best monastery or private hotel we stayed in during our three week stay in Italy. Very convenient location. If the staff had been able to speak a little English it would have been a perfect stay. We found the staff very sincere and helpful as best they could be. But we felt saddened that we could not communicate better with the staff but that is probably our fault as much as anything.
Robert - MA, United States (October 2014)
It is very beautiful, clean and quiet. The staff are wonderful and the sisters are very helpful and thoughtful. The breakfast is a bit spartan, depending on your expectations from other B&Bs.
Therese - MO, United States (September 2014)
I stayed at San Ludovico with my father and my niece. The location is very central and the facilities are excellent. Besides, there is an atmosphere of peacefulness and quietness that is not found in touristic places anymore. The sisters were gentle and helpful; while the building, the gardens and the artworks are like pearls encrusted in the little medieval village of Orvieto.
Renata - RJ, Brazil (February 2014)
The facility is lovely and relaxing.
Eric - CT, United States (September 2013)
Wonderfully peaceful.
Margaret - Hampshire, United Kingdom (May 2013)
Orvieto is a beautiful place and this is an exceptional guest house. Be sure to see the garden. The dining hall has a centuries old fresco, there is a grand salon, and a foyer with a floating staircase, but better still is the whole atmosphere of peace and serenity. The breakfasts include local specialities such as ham, cheeses and olives and the sisters' home-made jams and marmalade. Wonderful!
Penelope - New South Wales, Australia (April 2013)
This is a beautiful place with a fantastic location. It is quiet and near buses and great restaurants. Rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. Laundry is available for 5.00 euro to wash a load and hang dry upstairs. Breakfast is the usual prepackaged breads, coffee, weak juice, and cereal with occasional eggs. Wifi was 10 euro and only available in a few rooms even though it states it is available to all.

Wonderful place!
Genevra - MD, United States (September 2012)
The stay with the Sisters was one of the highlights of our time in Italy. The location is superb, the Sisters made us welcome and while we didn't have a common language we managed to communicate quite well and had a ton of fun doing it as well. We hope we can go back some day.
Robert - Queensland, Australia (October 2011)
The garden was beautiful and the monastery was very peaceful. The rooms were clean and the size of the room and bathroom were larger than hotels and B & B's we stayed in. We enjoyed it very much and it was in a good location.
David - CA, United States (June 2010)
Great location, immaculate accommodations, super friendly sisters.
