House of the Suore Francescane Missionare di Assisi del Giglio
Casa Di Accoglienza Maria Immacolata has beautifully presented rooms and spaces in an historic and stunning location. Large common areas both inside and outside the venue give guests a place to relax and unwind.
This venue is within walking distance of the World Heritage listed Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi (Saint Francis). It was built after his canonization in 1228, and completed in 1253. The lower church hosts frescoes by renowned late-medieval artists Cimabue and Giotto. In the upper church there are frescoes of scenes in the life of Saint Francis previously ascribed to Giotto and now thought to be by artists of the circle of Pietro Cavallini of Rome. The Basilica was restored after being badly damaged in 1997 when an earthquake hit the town.

The place is magnificent, in a good location, very well kept and the nuns were very helpful. I would surely visit again.

We drove a private car to Assisi. The parking was a good distance from the monastery, but was reasonably priced. The stay was very peaceful and the views from one of our two rooms was magnificent. The single room was on the street side of the monastery and was a little noisy for the member of our party who stayed in it. The nuns were very welcoming and friendly.
Nancy - TX, United States (April 2022)
The view from the rooms is stunning. The location is fabulous, so close to the Basilica. The Sisters are so helpful and welcoming. We had an early departure, 06:00, and they prepared bagged breakfasts for my group of 20. Our only regret is we only had one night, will definitely stay longer next time.
Michelle - British Columbia, Canada (August 2019)
Wonderful stay. The nuns were exceptional.
Betty - PA, United States (April 2019)
The sisters were very kind and helpful and most of them spoke good English. Definitely recommend the stay.
John - QLD, Australia (November 2018)
Spectacular view from our room.
Up a BIG hill! Public transport limited.
Very well located.
Good that it has a lift.

It was wonderful to be there: the house, the sisters, the task, location... Thank you very much!

Wonderful place.

This convent is located just a few hundred meters from St. Francis' Basilica on the main street. The room was predictably austere in its furnishings, yet very clean and comfortable. Our window faced the valley below and we opened it to a spectacular view. The valley was shrouded in fog and we were above the clouds, almost like a glimpse from heaven. The sisters were very kind. The bathroom was small and the shower was the size of a phone booth but the space was very clean and functional. We did not experience any street noise from our room. Also, there is a 10:30 PM curfew and there was no noise from the hallway from inconsiderate patrons. The included breakfast is simply coffee and bread. I am not sure if other items were available at extra cost. We found an American/Italian breakfast in a hotel just past the main square from our location for 8 euros per person, so we ate breakfast there. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else when we return to Assisi in the future.
Jeffrey - TX, United States (December 2015)
The sisters were welcoming and very friendly. Easy access to everything in Assisi by walking. On the main route to the Basillica. Great view over the lowlands from my room. Good restaurant in the main square.
Breakfast was a bit sparse.
Margaret - New South Wales, Australia (November 2015)
Room was great. Location was perfect. Food was delicious.
Edward - NY, United States (October 2015)
Situated along the mediaeval looking Via San Francesco half way between the town square and the Franciscan basilica. Inside the ancient convent the rooms with en suit are pleasant, immaculate and modern. I had a panoramic view of the old city below and the plains below Assisi. Luckily the bells of Assisi rarely start before 7am. The office staff (the sisters) were lovely and helpful. I felt totally at home there. The breakfasts, as typical in many Italian hotels, were basic. I thought the accommodation inexpensive for the value I got. I look forward to staying there again for a week or so in a year or two.
Robert - New South Wales, Australia (September 2015)
We had a room with a balcony that overlooked Assisi - an absolutely spectacular visit. The room was clean and comfortable. The sister's are so friendly. I felt very safe and loved in their care. I would come back again and again!
Julia - CO, United States (September 2015)
A wonderful place to stay. Centrally located. The sisters were friendly and very helpful with all our questions. The rooms-very comfortable. Heated towel racks-very much appreciated in winter. Breakfast adequate, but challenging for non-bread eaters. The option of dinner was very much appreciated. Definitely would stay again.
Cathy A - Queensland, Australia (December 2014)
Location was primo and the Sisters were so nice and helpful. The view from my window was a delight as were the bells.
Shirley - CA, United States (September 2014)
Simply wonderful - Friendly, clean, comfortable, great location and price. I enjoyed the most wonderful stay.
Jonathan - Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom (May 2014)
Excellent stay all told. The nuns were great, English spoken which was helpful.
Edward - MA, United States (October 2013)
A lovely location in the centre of town in walking distance of all the sites, all the sisters we met were friendly and helpful despite our poor Italian. We stayed for 3 nights and would recommend UMA104 for people wanting to see Assisi, have some quiet time, and see the town as it is waking in the morning.
Richard - Surrey, United Kingdom (April 2013)
This is a great place to relax and enjoy the great city of Assisi. The rooms are excellent and the views are awesome. The sisters are helpful and the chapel is beautiful. I plan to return again.
Joyce - FL, United States (March 2013)
The location is perfect - in the center close to everything. The sisters are friendly and flexible. The rooms are clean, new, and furnished with simple good taste. This was our second time staying here, and it is well worth it. Even a 10.30pm curfew is not much of a disadvantage in quiet Assisi.
Andrew - WA, United States (April 2011)
Monastery had obviously been refurbished recently. Sisters were very welcoming. Meals were adequate and reasonable. It was a privilege to attend morning mass with the nuns. Did not have any problems.
Margaret - Victoria, Australia (September 2010)
The hospitality of the nuns.
Jackie - New South Wales, Australia (January 2008)
