A simply and welcoming stay within the convent cloisters in a medieval Tuscan town. Surrounded by the heritage fortifications and only a short distance from Siena and Florence. A lodging that boasts an authentic feel and spectacular surroundings.
Ideally located between Florence and Siena, San Gimignano city center is heritage listed thanks to its fourteen large standing medieval towers. There are also many churches in the town, some of which house fine pieces of renaissance artwork. Also worth trying is San Gimignano's famous white wine made from Vernaccia grapes.

Fantastic. As usual, the religious sister was so helpful and delicate with my stay. I will DEFINITELY be returning.
This convent is operated by the Monache Benedettine Vallombrosane.
A truly historic house, simple and welcoming with classic Tuscan presentation. The front entrance is testament to the history that goes with this venue and the archways inside are stunning.
Mass is held at 8:00am on Sunday.

Fantastic. As usual, the religious sister was so helpful and delicate with my stay. I will DEFINITELY be returning.

Friendly nun on reception desk, room fine, location very good. Breakfast a bit basic. Otherwise all fine.
Pat - CO TIPPERARY, Ireland (September 2016)
We were warmly welcomed by Sister Magdalena and enjoyed attending a morning mass. Location was fantastic, it was great having parking within the city and the room had all the basics we needed.

Ursula - , South Africa (September 2013)
Magdelena, the nun who checked me in and showed me my room, was incredibly warm and welcoming, and made me feel like I was part of her family! The monastery was incredibly peaceful--I felt a great sense of calm there, and slept like a baby. Its conveniently located within the walls of San G, but far enough off the beaten path that it offers respite from the bustling crowds. Check in hours are limited, but if you give a call, they are more than happy to accomodate you at any hour of the day! I recommend this place HIGHLY.
Emmett - NY, United States (October 2012)
Nothing but praise. The setting was idyllic and the sisters could not have been more welcoming, we were shown the true monastic spirit of hospitality. We were not treated as clients but honoured guests of their community. We were offered parking (in a private car park opposite the monastery) thereby saving us a large sum in public parking outside the town walls. When our accommodation requirements changed, the sisters went to great trouble to provide for our needs and ensure that we were satisfied.
Edward - Worcestershire, United Kingdom (May 2012)
I stayed for nine nights, it was truly fantastic both in venue and price. I would definately recommend a stay there for the location, venue, cleaniness, and just that warm friendly atmosphere that you never get staying in large hotels. I plan to return next year this time with my whole family. Oh and the views are breath taking from my window. To wake up and see such a beautiful part of the world was truly heavenly.
Tania - New South Wales, Australia (August 2011)
Wonderful and much appreciated to be able to sleep within the walls of the town. Parking also within was an exceptional bonus.
Allyson - Torres Novas, Portugal (August 2011)
Very welcoming on arrival, with drinks being offered to us. The nuns couldn't do too much for us. They spoke each time we saw them and showed us an insight into their lives in the monastery. The room was very clean with fantastic views over the Tuscan countryside. Breakfast was simple as stated but the nuns made 'jam tart' which was well received by all of us. A delightful experience which we would willingly repeat!
Paul - Derbyshire, United Kingdom (July 2011)
Breakfast not good quality.
Pamela - Victoria, Australia (May 2011)
The accommodations were spartan, but the nun in charge was wonderful and accommodating. She allowed our girls to use the kitchen.
David - NC, USA (May 2011)
Great location, fantastic views. Did not see as much of the Monastery as was shown in the pictures on website.
Renee - CA, United States (September 2010)
The feeling of staying at a monastery was wonderful. I hadn't expected to instantly feel so peaceful and calm, but I did. The sister who checked us in and took care of everything was gracious and lovely. At the end of our stay, we had a wonderful moment of saying good-bye despite not understanding each other's words. It was perfect and one of the highlights of my trip to Italy. The only thing I'd change would be the towels. They were small and quite worn. However, I'd simply recommend that travelers bring one of their own (as we should have done). Absolutely!
