House of the Suore di CarmeliteA beautiful monastery set amongst a superb natural environment in the famous Frascati region of Lazio - a wonderful offering. The main church in the centre of Monte Compatri (Maria Assunta) is a lovely 17th century structure which is the main drawcard of the city. Nearby is a small sanctuary dedicated to Madonna del Castagno (Madonna of the Chestnuts) built to give thanks for the escape of the townspeople from the plague. Monte Compatri is one of the 'Castelli Romani', or Castles of Rome, which is a group of towns south-east of Rome. The cuisine of the area is another highlight, with Monte Compatri being in prime wine growing territory, so a typical meal in one of the great restaurants in the town will be usually accompanied by a glass of Frascati or Castelli Romani, both white wine varieties. ServicesThis monastery is operated by the Suore di Carmelite. The peacefulness of the lodging is further complemented by the splendid surroundings - a combination of forestry, chestnut trees and grape vines are present on all sides of the monastery. A lovely dining room awaits guests for a meal and a glass of famous Frascati wine while staying here. FeaturesRecently renovated guest rooms offer a good balance between modern comfort and the charm of a traditional Italian guest house.Getting AroundPerched on a hill above the centre of Monte Compatri, this monastery is in a quiet and relaxing part of Lazio.HistoryThe convent was established in 1450 when the Cloisters of San Silvestro were built.Benefits of Booking with Monastery Stays
