House of the Suore Domenicane del SS. Sacramento di Fognano
Located in a gorgeous part of Italy and close to the Tuscan border, this is a wonderful offering in the Italian countryside. Perfect for those travelers wanting do some sight seeing in Italy's larger cities but escape their hustle and bustle at night. Traditional, clean and majestic, this is a top choice for Emilia Romagna.
Fognano is a quiet town but boasts the Church of Saint Peter, built in 1464.
The town is located on the main connecting road between Florence and Ravenna, giving travelers the opportunity to take day trips and explore the surrounding cities.
The city of Faenza is also close by and well worth a visit. It is well known for its two main squares, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza della Libertá.

We loved our stay here. We stayed 7 nights. It was our first time staying in a convent/monastery and based on this stay we will be booking our future stays in Europe in these types of places if at all possible. It was quiet, the room was clean, dark for sleeping, comfortable for putting away our things, the restroom was perfect for us, the beds were the most comfortable we had for our month visit in Spain, Portugal and Italy in various locations. Based on this area we should have rented a car to get around but we were happy to take the train and walk everywhere. There are 2 restaurants and a cafe within 4 minutes walk for lunch and dinner (all delicious!) We chose to eat dinner one night in the monastery and it was wonderful! We hiked twice in Brisighella and had lunch and dinner there (this town is 2.5 miles away), a wonderful place to visit! You will not regret staying here. A gem for sure.
This convent is operated by the Suore Domenicane del SS. Sacramento di Fognano.
This grand and traditional guest house is truly stunning from the outside with a host of period style features giving it a warm and genuine feel. The beautiful park surrounding it only adds to the majestic nature of what is a multi-level complex with a rich history.
Mass is held at 5:30pm.
Breakfast is included in the price. Other meals are available (additional) and bookings can be arranged with reception.

Excellent location. Easy day travel to Faenza, Bologna, even Firenze. Quiet, very relaxing. Sisters are gracious and accommodating.
Vincent - CA, United States (September 2024)
The nuns were pleasant and gregarious. The monastery was very peaceful. It's everything you might want.

Stayed there for five nights. It was a quiet little town. Easy to reach from both Florence and Bologna/Faenza by train. Recommend visiting the neighbouring town Brisighella.
The monastery was quiet. The sisters running it was lovely, but did not speak any english. Work well with google translate and good humour.
Nina Aas - , Norway (June 2024)
Exceptional and unique location. The monastery is historical, the sisters are very accommodating and provide a safe, secure, serene environment of tranquility. Exploring the region between Faenza and Marradi is spectacular.

This was my second, much anticipated stay this year, regrettably for only 3 days. It is a magical place. The interior with its high vaulted ceilings was refreshingly cool whilst it was sweltering outside; the accommodation is basic, but comfortable and spotlessly clean throughout. The sisters are charming, friendly and welcoming. The kitchen serves an authentic cuisine of the region, simple and delicious.
There are no rich carpets or fashionable furnishings here, it does not need them.

The Casa Di Accoglienza Emiliani cannot be compared to other sorts of accommodation, and is unique in my personal experience. The facilities are basic, but entirely met my needs, and the sisters were unfailingly kind and helpful.
It is off the beaten track and yet easily accessible using the nearby railway.
I very much hope to return there in the next year.

My stay at Casa Di Accoglienza Emiliani was unforgettable! The sisters, staff, and guests are all incredibly wonderful people. I opted to eat lunch and dinner at the monastery, in addition to the complimentary breakfast. I am so happy I chose to do this! The food I ate (and wine I drank) at the monastery was some of the best I ate during my entire trip to Italy. The location of the monastery is very convenient to the train station and within walking distance to Brisaghella, which has a lot to offer. I recommend this monastery to all travellers who wish to experience local food and culture in Fognano.
Sarah - NC, United States (January 2018)
The monastery was lovely, the nuns were friendly and helpful, and I was stretched to use my poor Italian, but they were very patient (one nun had a little English and was pleased to use it where possible).
Fognano is a very pretty village, quiet with very narrow roads, and it was delightful to wander around the village and take pictures of the surrounding hills.
Jennifer - Nsw, Australia (August 2017)
Very good example of a monastery run by a small group of welcoming but strict nuns. Despite not speaking English, with a few basic Italian phrases and hand gestures, communication was on balance easy. The building is massive and very quiet. Lovely views. The town itself is a bit dead but if you like walking, then Brisighella is well worth a visit. Grazie mille!!!
Daniel - , France (April 2017)
The Sisters and the guesthouse were both wonderful. Facilities are spartan, but clean and to a good standard. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent.
Rosalie - ACT, Australia (November 2016)
The nuns spoke very little english, however they were extremely accommodating. The breakfast was basic but very plentiful and the dinner was actually extremely decent for the price. I would definitely come again. However, I would recommend coming via Car if you want to explore the local area as Fognano is quite remote and there isn't a whole lot to do.
James - , United Kingdom (September 2016)
The sisters were warm and friendly. They were happy we were there, with generous and authentic smiles.
The breakfast had a nice variety of meats, cheeses and pastries - served in abundance. We opted in for dinner at the convent and every night we had a different 4 course dinner with water and wine. The price was very reasonable. Our room was spacious with a wonderful view of the gardens.
The sisters are "kid friendly" They run a pre-school and play outside with the children in the afternoon.
I highly recommend the Casa Di Accoglienza Emiliani and hope to return there again.
Catherine - FL, United States (May 2015)
The atmosphere here is serene and one is surrounded by natural as well as architectural beauty. These wonderful nuns share a quality that we never found elsewhere...yet hard to describe, a natural kindness and one felt they enjoyed their lives. To be honest I could have stayed for a month.
Emile - Cape Province, South Africa (May 2014)
Very enjoyable stay at the convent in Fognano. Met some lovely people, and the location was very convenient for exploring the surrounding countryside and cities. Emilia-Romagna is a wonderful part of Italy. The agriculture and natural beauty of this area match other more well known tourist areas of Italy, and the cities such as Ravenna, Faenza, and Bologna make for great day tours.
