Rated 4.6 out of 5
We loved our time at Albergo Alma Domus. It was incredibly convenient to all we wanted to see and the staff could T have been nicer. Nice breakfast, clean, comfortable rooms. The only issue is if you have trouble with stairs. To get from the road to the hotel, there are a number of stairs to go down before you enter the hotel. We took our time and it was fine. Highly recommend and would stay here again if we are blessed to get back there.
This convent is operated by the Diocesi di Siena - Suore Domenicane di Santa Caterina da Siena.
Although completely renovated, this venues has still preserved its original facade, which is clearly visible from Vicolo del Tiratoio. It is five stories high and decorated in typical Sienese style with a row of tall rectangular windows running along its substantial base. Arches decorate the upper stories and decorative brick battlements complete the picture. All single rooms have a shower with a drain on the floor and no curtains.
Twin / Double rooms can be configured either way at this guest house, please see Rooms Explained (click)
Mass is held every day at 7:00am & 6:30pm.
Breakfast is included in the price. Other meals are available from restaurants and cafes in the area.

margaret - IL, United States (November 2022)
Great place to stay! A lovely breakfast is provided and the monestary is quite central. The staff were fairly helpful as well. Enjoyed this stay.
Deborah - BC, Canada (October 2022)
Absolutely incredible location, and still very quiet at night. The facility is extremely well appointed and clean, and the view out of our window of the Siena Duomo was stunning. The staff are very professional and helpful. We will definitely return to Albergo Alma Domus!!
Randy - MN, United States (June 2022)
Albergo Alma Domus is located in old town, and we could see the Sanctuary of St. Catherine's just outside our small balcony. The main piazza was a short walk away, as was the Duomo complex. This was a very comfortable stay, and my sister and I recommend this monastery.
Elizabeth - TX, United States (October 2021)
Excellent near St Catherine sites and San Domenico
Lee - GA, United States (October 2019)
Only positive comments. Professional and human!
Hedwig - , Belgium (September 2019)
An absolutely fantastic place to stay! Extremely convenient location, clean rooms, excellent views, and a great staff. I had a small economy room perfect for one person traveling alone, with the most beautiful view of the Duomo from my window. Included breakfast from 7:30-10:00 was great, and I was only a 15 minute walk from any of the major locations in Siena. The staff was very kind and helpful and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Katherine - NC, United States (June 2019)
Thank you for all of your kindness and hospitality!
Michael - UT, United States (June 2019)

Wonderful views of the duomo, lovely hosts and a great breakfast!
Katelyn - KS, United States (October 2018)
The guesthouse is very well located and easy to find, and we were easily able to walk anywhere in Siena from there. The staff was friendly and helpful. There are several places to eat nearby. Breakfast was good and included fruit, yogurt and croissants.
Wendy - , New Zealand (October 2018)
Loved the location. Loved the view and bells ringing.
Sue - SA, Australia (October 2018)
Amazing place to stay. Very professional, as it is no longer a convent.
Peta - VIC, Australia (September 2018)
This is a fantastic location, very modern and extremely clean. The staff were great.
Julie - NSW, Australia (July 2018)
Wonderful experience. Loved Siena, perfect location. Could not have wished for anything more. Thank you from a very satisfied New Zealander. You even had an iron I could use which was great when you are travelling for 3 months
M - , New Zealand (June 2018)
The rooms were beautiful and the hotel front desk people very helpful. The rest of the staff was kind and engaging. Breakfast was unusually good for a place to stay in Rome. Its access to the sanctuary of St.Catherine was an added bonus. It's a little on the pricey side, but it was also a lot on the luxury side. Really well done. I would stay there again with no questions asked.
Hank - MO, USA (June 2018)
The location is amazing, and we were in a room with a fabulous view. Everything was clean and appeared very new. The staff was very helpful - made our stay a breeze.
Stephanie - IL, United States (May 2018)
I had a budget room and it was quite nice and extremely clean. I loved the location, just far enough from the city center for a nice walk. The staff was wonderful, especially the lady in the breakfast room with such a nice smile. I highly recommend this property, especially to solo travelers.
Marijean E - WA, United States (October 2017)
Fantastic value for very central location - wonderful views of the Duomo from the room's balcony.
Sarah - , United Kingdom (August 2017)
Albergo Alma Domus was a perfect place to stay in Siena. The room and building were extremely clean, and the side of the building I stayed on afforded a lovely view of the historic centre of Siena. The room seemed to have been recently renovated, and the furniture was clean and new. Staff were friendly and helpful; the hotel is near several restaurants; it's a 5-minute walk to the Piazza del Campo; and the room had TV and wifi. It was great!
Caroline - Ontario, Canada (June 2017)
Lovely room with balcony overlooking Siena! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Within walking distance of Siena sights. Great place to stay.
Kathaleen - MD, United States (May 2017)
Great views available but noise insulation can be improved.
Paul - VIC, Australia (April 2017)
Best location ever. Wonderful views, great breakfast, modern facilities and short walk from historic centre of Siena.
Stephen - TAS, Australia (January 2017)
Great stay here. Amazing location across from St Catherines Basilica with beautiful views from the higher rooms. Helpful staff. High standard rooms and breakfast
Hayley - New South Wales, Australia (January 2017)
Helpful staff at reception. Quiet clean rooms and comfortable beds. Nice simple breakfast. Great view of the Duomo across the ravine.
Shau - British Columbia, Canada (October 2016)
Outstanding facility. Great location in a beautiful city.
Vicki - KY, United States (August 2016)
The walk with luggage down stairs arriving and up stairs leaving is a bit much for older folks. But the view from my little balcony was great. There were restaurants for lunch and dinner close by. I appreciated the fact the rooms had air conditioning. The breakfast and bathrooms were adequate and updated. I would recommend the Alma Domus to others and if I return to Siena would stay there again.
Mary - CA, United States (June 2016)
View from room spectacular!
Barbara - Ontario, Canada (May 2016)
Outstanding service, especially from Georgio at the front desk who helped us navigate the computer to book train travel. The view from the balcony must be the best in Siena. Good breakfast.
Sally - CA, United States (May 2016)
Very pleasant stay, helpful staff, fine breakfast
Susan - CA, United States (March 2016)
This was an absolutely amazing stay. I was so touched to see how much pride and love went into this place. My experience could not have been better. It was just all over amazing - the people, the view, it being RIGHT next to St. Catherine's house and basilica...It was just magical. I would definitely go back again, and I typically don't repeat places. Thank you for the priceless experience!
Brittney - IL, United States (October 2015)
The location was very good with the main attractions within walking distance. The staff were friendly.
Keith - Western Australia, Australia (October 2015)
Lovely building and location with a view. Nice breakfast. Very helpful reception staff.

Diane - NY, United States (June 2015)
This was a wonderful place! Clean, friendly, and right in the middle of town. And breakfast was good too! I highly recommend it.
Mary - OH, United States (October 2014)
Clean and convenient. Very helpful reception staff.
We had a room with a nice veranda.
John Robert - , Hong Kong (August 2014)
Absolutely beautiful. Unbelievable location and quality for the price. Helped me get in touch with a tour company I'd booked an excursion with that hadn't shown up to get it straightened out.
Shayna - MA, United States (July 2014)
The location was very convenient to the bus stop in Piazza Gramsci, and we all had fabulous views of the Duomo. The bathrooms with their terry-cloth towels were almost luxurious, and the A/C in the rooms was a welcome addition. The staff at the front desk were efficient and cool, not particularly warm and friendly, but they did provide us with breakfast "cestinas" upon request, when we had to leave on an early train.
Kate - TX, United States (June 2014)
Wonderful location, beautiful setting. The view form our room was stunning.
Virginia - IL, United States (June 2014)
An excellent location for exploring the town.
Barbara - Auckland, New Zealand (June 2014)
Incredible view of the Siena cathedral from my room. Very well run like a hotel with a 24hour front desk. Cannot take bicycle into rooms. Strictly enforced that bikes have to be left outside. Make sure bring bike locks. Breakfast is better than average. Another plus is that it is close to bus station
Anthony - British Columbia, Canada (June 2014)
Far and away the best hostel and, for the price, one of the best HOTELs I've ever stayed at. The room was impeccably clean with an absolutely magnificent view of the skyline of central Siena with the Duomo at one end and the Torre at the other and close enough to the cubist stacks of houses across the narrow valley to see shutters opening and washing hung out in the morning. I was awoken each day by the sound of bells from both of the towers, because I left the doors to my private balcony wide open (closed, the doors completely muffled the sound, but why would I want to do that?). The breakfasts were fine. The staff were consistently pleasant, helpful and fluent in English. The public areas, both inside and out are exquisitely beautiful, and the location between the great Dominican church and the Santa Caterina shrines had a profound sense of spiritual serenity, complemented by the delightful flag waving celebrations of the oca contrade nearby. And it is close enough to the campo and other piazzas, churches and museums, to allow an easy retreat from the tourist bustle in just a few minutes. I wish I could have stayed in this magical place for much longer and I shall certainly return to it.
Alan - CA, United States (May 2014)
Loved our time there. Appreciated access to a computer but recommend to hotel that they make a printer available to guests.
Barbra - IL, United States (April 2014)
Georgio at front desk gave excellent service. He also spoke English very well and gave great information on what to do/see. Breakfast was minimal offerings but every good croissants. I would stay again. It was also a nice location and very clean.
Mary Cay - TN, United States (April 2014)
Lovely.
Sharon - VA, United States (August 2013)
Staff very friendly and helpful. Room had a lovely view over the rooftops to the Cathedral. There are some lovely small restaurants nearby and I would recommend the Alma Domus to anyone wanting a simple, clean location.
Karen - Victoria, Australia (May 2013)
Very helpful front desk. Breakfast was of a good standard (for a European breakfast).
Lawrence - NH, United States (April 2013)
Satisfacotory
William - New South Wales, Australia (October 2012)
Wonderful place, great breakfast buffet with pastries baked in-house. Only problem is with the internet connection, which did not function in my room, and when I used the computer in the lounge was very difficult to log out from.
Genevra - MD, United States (September 2012)
Very attractive rates. Basic but fairly clean. The views of medieval Siena are awesome. The dome of the cathedral was looming above my window! Very close to the gems of Siena. Very close to excellent restaurants and trattorias. Internet is not free (one euro for 30 minutes; 5 euros for 3 hours). the receptionists can communicate satisfactorily in English, French and German. One night, an inebriated German couple made a lot of noise in their room, preventing me from falling asleep. The concierge called them at my request and they quieted down in about 10 minutes. If I ever return to Siena, I will stay again at this guest house.
Daniel - Ontario, Canada (September 2012)
This my second stay here and I would absolutely stay again. This time we discovered escalators to the Duomo near by and also those connected to the train station.
Bernard - IL, United States (August 2012)
The room was simple, but clean, comfortable and I had the most lovely view of the Duomo (I was in room #20). The breakfasts were simple, but filling (cereal, yogurts, breads and jam and croissants). The location was perfect. I would without a doubt stay here again the next time I travel to Siena - it is a safe, clean and comfortable stay!
Tamara - CA, United States (July 2012)
Very friendly staff, clean and quiet, good location.
Katharine - NY, United States (July 2012)
Loved the proximity to the sanctuary and town. Very nice facility and staff.
Laurs - FL, United States (May 2012)
Loved the view from the balcony.
Susan - Victoria, Australia (March 2012)
Very good location, helpful staff, good sized rooms and good bathroom. Doorway into room a bit low, my husband is tall and bumped his head the first couple of times going in and out of room - would be useful to let tall people know.
Susan - , New Zealand (October 2011)
It was fabulous. My room had a spectacular view of the Duomo. It was situated in a great location, easy to get to by public transportation and within walking distance of everything. I found the staff to be very helpful.
Christine - Ontario, Canada (October 2011)
The view from my balcony was incredible! The staff are at the desk 24 hours a day, and are always there to help. I greatly enjoyed my stay!
Nicole - KS, United States (June 2011)
A great location. Service was excellent. It was a little noisey at times because the floors are tiled and everything seems to echo, doors seem to bang a fair bit. Also a lot of young people seem to stay there with little regard for those trying to get some sleep. Still enjoyed it immensely.
Anthony - New South Wales, Australia (June 2011)
This was an entirely wonderful place to stay. It was peaceful and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English. The location was perfect and my room had a truly magnificent view. The room itself was immaculate and was well supplied with soap, shower gel, spare blankets etc. A reasonable self-service breakfast was included. I would definitely recommend it to friends and plan to stay there again in the future.
Elizabeth - , United Kingdom (May 2011)
View, serenity, proximity to sights Extremely difficult to find, hard to get luggage to the monastery, uncaring, rude personnel, no customer service, no one at the hotel could give directions in English.
Donna - TX, United States (May 2010)
One of my favorite all-round experiences on the trip was this city/stay good location, reasonable price, clean, good breakfast, restful not particularly friendly, no kettle/drink-making facilities.
sarah - Victoria, Australia (October 2009)
The view from my balcony was amazing! The room was clean and comfortable. I felt very safe there.
Arlene - British Columbia, Canada (July 2009)
Beds were good. Clean. Quiet. Parking was free though about a one kilometer walk from monastery. No full shower, just curtain over drain in bathroom - taking a shower soaked bathroom floor and required towels to wipe down after each use. Breakfast was mediocre.
david - CO, United States (July 2009)
Comfortable, clean room. Good location. Reasonable price. Breakfast.
Solange - London, United Kingdom (June 2009)
It was perfection! I was welcomed from the moment I arrived til I left. Home away from home!
margaret - ME, United States (May 2009)
Central location in old part of Siena. Room warm, good shower. Helpful service. Breakfast adequate but could have been better.
Celia - West Midlands, United Kingdom (February 2009)
Location and lovely view of the city; clean and comfy beds. Surprised to see plastic throwaway dishes at breakfast. Breakfast was basic, but good.
Stephen - IL, United States (December 2008)
We were expecting something more austere without lifts. It was very comfortable. The position was outstanding - virtually central Siena Old Town, but enough removed for peace and quiet. The room design - we had a wonderful balcony overlooking Siena. Also the bathroom was larger than many Italian B&B bathrooms. It was very clean and the reception staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The lift was a definite plus as was the internet use. Breakfast, good. Pleasant restaurants nearby. Also the buses at the train station are underground. We have already told all our friends how wonderful this convent was.
Kerry - New South Wales, Australia (June 2008)
Convenient, attractive. Hundreds of pigeons outside my window kept me awake at night. Desk staff very cold and unwelcoming. Despite the drawbacks still a good deal.
Earl - Quebec, Canada (October 2007)
Just what I expected. Location and view from the room. The persons at the front desk were not very friendly when we asked questions about the town.
