House of the Monaci Benedittini Carmaldolesi
This monastery is simply one of the most stunning venues on offer in Italy. The history of the complex is amazing, the surroundings spectacular and the hospitality authentic.It is fairly remote but a great place to relax. There are also plenty of good walking trails, ensuring a safe and easy way to explore the surrounding nature.

This monastery is operated by the Monaci Benedittini Carmaldolesi.There are so many rooms and areas to explore while you stay here, some that have been added over time and some that have been there ever since the complex was first constructed. You could spend hours just roaming the grounds discovering something else about the lodging, such is the history and intrigue that goes with it.
Guided tours of the grounds are run five times per day, Monday to Saturday and more frequently on Sunday.
The dining room at the monastery serves all meals, which are typical, authentic Italian cuisine.

The monastery is perched in the Apennines, in an untouched, magical location. The lodging sits on the side of Mount Catria, at an altitude of approximately 700 metres above sea level (the peak of Catria is more like 1,700 metres). The guest house is best accessed by private transport.

The history contained within this famous lodging is by far the biggest attraction this area has to offer. The building was first opened in the 10th century, and was a monastery for a group of hermits who lived in the isolated area in silence.It is known that these hermits were influenced in their life by Saint Romuald of Ravenna, who spent time in the area in the same century. The hermitage became a monastery in the early 14th century, and was quite a significant place during that time.
So much so, that it was mentioned by Dante in his 'Divine Comedy' when he talks about the hermitage on Catria.
Over the years, the building was neglected, and when it fell back into the hands of the Camaldolese Monks in the 19th century, it was completely restored to its former, beautiful glory.
