It was said that in this are a deaf and dumb boy found a statue of the Virgin Mary and subsequently regained his hearing and voice. The original Basilica dates back to the 13th century however the accommodation building was recently built in 1984. The complex received its Basilica status from Pope John Paul II in 1979.
