Casa di Accoglienza Sant' Antonio (St Anthony's Guest House) is an inviting and traditional guest house with a typical Umbrian stone facade and large common areas. Beautifully restored rooms and spaces in an historic and stunning location.
This convent is surrounded by some of the most historical churches in Assisi, the Basilica of Santa Chiara and Basilica di San Francesco. The World Heritage listed Saint Francis Basilica was built after his canonization in 1228, and completed in 1253.
The lower church hosts frescoes by renowned late-medieval artists Cimabue and Giotto. In the upper church there are frescoes of scenes in the life of Saint Francis previously ascribed to Giotto and now thought to be by artists of the circle of Pietro Cavallini of Rome.
The Basilica was restored after being badly damaged in 1997 when an earthquake hit the town.

third stay at St Anthony's.
This convent is operated by the Suore Francescane dell'Atonement.
This venue was restored in 1998 after an earthquake hit Assisi. Today it is a warm and beautifully presented villa with light and modern rooms as well as open spaces that overlook the city. The upper garden also provides breathtaking views of the Umbrian country side.

This place is incredible. The sisters are the kindest souls you will ever meet, and the views from the sitting room, private room balconies and the many garden green spaces over the valley are unforgettable. Wonderful hospitality & a great way to experience Assisi. Room was cold and did not have access to changing the heat. My only recommendation would be allowing heat to be adjusted. Thank you!
Anne - WA, United States (March 2022)
We arrived after the normal check-in time due to circumstances beyond our control. We had had a frazzled journey but were able to relax once we arrived. Sister Sue had waited for our arrival and was enormously reassuring and helpful. Our stay was marked by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the sisters and staff and we were genuinely sorry to leave. A wonderful example of Christianity in action.
Suzanne - Cheshire, United Kingdom (September 2021)
This was a high-point of our holiday - a magical place of peace and tranquillity. Comfortable, spacious room, lovely continental breakfast and wonderful people. The setting is beautiful and sometimes we just sat in the lovely gardens looking at the glorious view of Assisi around us.

The Sisters of the Atonement have created a haven of peace and welcome for pilgrims and visitors to Assisi. If you are of faith, wish to meet others with diverse experience and similar value, this is the place for you! Sr. Suzanne Marie was heaven sent! Very clean, quiet, and up the hill to give a little workout after eating Assisi's fine cuisine. Breakfast was excellent with what one would expect, with the Sister's encouragement in sitting you with people on a similar path as you.
Dana - WI, United States (June 2018)
This was an outstanding place to stay in Assisi! The location was wonderful, Sr. Sue and her fellow Atonement sisters have created a haven in this holy town. We were blessed to be able to attend daily Mass several times in English due to Msgr. Craig Harrison being in residence while we were there. So wonderful! The meals were simple and delicious. We met lovely people each morning at breakfast and were able to enjoy the gardens overlooking Assisi and especially Santa Chiara and San Rufino - views right outside our windows. Without hesitation we know we will be back. Don't miss this wondrous place!
Val - OR, United States (June 2018)
This was our fourth stay at St. Anthony’s. The house is beautiful with lovely gardens and picture perfect surroundings. It’s a great location for visiting other sights in Assisi. The breakfast is sufficient, the rooms are basic with clean towels and bedding. The Sisters who run St. Anthony’s and the staff are very friendly and welcome you into their home. They have various binders with local information listing restaurant recommendation, train and bus schedules, and many other facts about the area. We will return to St. Anthony’s whenever we visit Assisi it’s a peaceful welcoming stay. Best of all,Sister Sue always welcomes you with a smile!
Adele - NY, United States (June 2018)
Probably our nicest friendliest guest house this trip. People were wonderful. Facility and gardens were beautiful.

A lovely warm calming welcome to a serene atmosphere. Absolutely perfect for us. As well as the location and the lovely garden and views etc. we also enjoyed the library very much.
Rosalind - , United Kingdom (April 2018)
Great location just a few hundred yards/meters from the old city piazza. lots of great restaurants and shopping close by. 15 min walk to the Basilica San Francesco and 30 min walk to the Rocca Maggiore. We were awakened by church bells in the morning and had the best sleep ever in the stillness of the guesthouse. Secure parking is also a plus. Sister Sue and her fellow nuns are the most gracious ever. Highly recommended. Great value.

If you are seeking an experience of Assisi as a pilgrim and a spiritual experience this place is just the place. My room had a beautiful view of the Cathedral of St. Clare and the bells that rang were wonderful. This place is very clean, has wonderful, friendly service and a sweet little chapel. It enhanced my stay in Assisi by adding that element of the sacred. It was wonderful and the Sisters were welcoming, warm and helpful!

I had a lovely stay at St. Anthony's Guest House. The sisters were very helpful--especially Sister Sue. The location, in a quiet and scenic part of town, was great. The views out the lounge windows at sunset were amazing! I appreciated being seated with other guests who were not part of a group for breakfast on my second day.

Brian - CA, United States (October 2014)
Fabulous stay, the Sisters were friendly and welcoming. Everything was clean and bright with amazing views. We stayed in a triple room with our daughter with plenty of room. Location is perfect, far enough away from the main square to avoid the noise but close enough to everything for an easy walk to St. Francis Basilica, St. Clares, restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend this property. Simple breakfast to start the day in a beautiful location!
Curt - NY, United States (October 2014)

Barbara - New Zealand, New Zealand (June 2014)
I Loved this Place! I can not praise it enough. It is ran by the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement. They have the most beautiful property in Assisi. Assisi sits on the side of the mountain. St. Anthony's House sits high in the city and from the Garden they have an overview of the whole town and the countryside below. St. Claire's Basilica is located less than a block down the hill and we woke to the sound of the church bells each morning. We arrived by train and used the directions from this website to find the House. They were perfect and we took the bus then walked directly to it. We had a triple room which was beautiful, clean, comfortable and had every convenience we needed. The Sister's were so friendly and helpful. Two of the Sisters spoke English which helped us greatly. The property includes the most beautiful garden. It has a small orchard along with many rose bushes and potted geraniums. The garden is dotted with wonderful sculptures of St. Francis, St. Anthony and the Virgin Mary. It is a unbelievably peaceful place in the middle of the hectic city. We sat in the garden watching the sunset over the city with a sandwich and a bottle of wine each night. The Sisters provided breakfast for us each morning. They also have a pantry where we could purchase cold drinks or microwave food bought at the local deli. They have a laundry room for hand-washing clothing and clothing lines in the lower garden for drying. If I ever have the opportunity to revisit Assisi, I will be staying at St. Anthony's Guest House. I highly recommend you staying here as well.
Vicki - OK, United States (June 2014)

Alma - TX, United States (April 2014)
I wish that I had booked for a week at this place where hospitality has new meaning. Guests simply relax and share the Sisters' home. Garden, extensive library, beautiful chapel, close to everything, great breakfast, guests addressed by name from the beginning. Run with quiet efficiency and good humour.
Heather - , New Zealand (April 2014)
We loved it we were made to feel very welcome, we loved the garden an being able to sit in on a lovely sunny day and take in Assisi. The Monastery is in a great location just away from the heavy traffic tourist areas but close to the bus down to the station.

Tyler - IA, United States (October 2012)
I had a fantastic time at this guest house! Apart from the clean room and lovely breakfast, they had great parking for my car, a self help coffee/tea station, washing and ironing facilities and the location is perfect. Just slightly out of the hustle and bustle of the touristy area, but close and safe enough to walk anywhere. The quiteness of the library and the friendliness of Sister Sue is something that I will remember!!!
Melanie - Gauteng, South Africa (September 2012)
We found the sisters warm and welcoming and the Guest House very comfortable. The location couldnt be bettered. And a very short walk takes you to a variety of restaurants which the sisters recommend.
