House of the Suore Francescane Missionarie di Gesu Bambino
Monastero S. Andrea is a beautiful venue in the heart of central Assisi. Attractions are within walking distance and the venue's terrace lookout. A traditional exterior and interior give guests a taste of Umbrian living along with a memorable guest house experience.
This venue is a short walk to the World Heritage listed Basilica di San Francesco. The Saint Francis Basilica was built after his canonization in 1228, and completed in 1253. The lower church hosts frescoes by renowned late-medieval artists Cimabue and Giotto. In the upper church there are frescoes of scenes in the life of Saint Francis previously ascribed to Giotto and now thought to be by artists of the circle of Pietro Cavallini of Rome. The Basilica was restored after being badly damaged in 1997 when an earthquake hit the town.

Sr. - CO KILDARE, Ireland (September 2023)
An absolutely lovely stay! The sisters were so kind and helpful making my stay wonderful.
Noah - TN, United States (October 2021)
Grateful for the wonderful hospitality. The 7:30 mass was a pleasant surprise. Can't beat the location for the Basilica San Francesco.
Mark - NJ, United States (July 2019)
Nice place at a special location, with a beautiful view from bed. Loving and caring sisters, mostly Italian speaking. The rooms can be noisy, depending on the guests who shower late or not or turn on the air conditioning (I only noticed that the last night). If I go to Assisi again, I will definitely come back here.
I read in previous reviews that the food was simple. I found the food varied and tasteful, both breakfast and dinner. For a small amount you can have dinner in the evening. After a day of hiking in the area, that is definitely recommended, especially if you are traveling alone and then finish off with the dessert on the balcony including the setting sun. Heavenly.

A very enjoyable stay. We were made very welcome by the nuns.
David - VIC, Australia (January 2019)
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this Monastery. It was a perfect place for a spiritual retreat. The sisters were kind and hospitable, my room perfectly met my needs for simplicity and quiet, and had a beautiful view of the Basilica. I would love to stay here again.
Lee - OR, United States (October 2018)
This was our second stay and found it to be just as wonderful as the first! The accommodations are terrific - so close to the Basilica - and the nuns are so kind. They've installed air-conditioning, which was a pleasant surprise. We will recommend the Monastery to everyone, and plan to stay there again.
Michael - PA, United States (May 2018)
Excellent place to stay for groups. A short walk from most important sights in Assisi. The sisters are helpful and sweet. Lunch and dinner are good, simple, tasty Italian food. Breakfast could be better (cheese, marmalade, white bread, cake, coffee and black tea). We had a wonderful stay at Monastery S. Andrea.

Es un bello espacio para quien busca paz.
Gracias a la acogedora comunidad que nos atendió!
Sara - Santa Fe, Argentina (June 2017)
The nuns were charming and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay.
Berta - TX, United States (May 2017)
This is a gem of a Monastery, just steps away from San Fracesco and just above the bustle of the tourist areas. The nuns are overflowing with welcome and the rooms are simple but immaculate. It is quiet enough to get a great night's sleep and close enough to restaurants and shops to feel in the middle of things. I had a fabulous stay and look forward to returning.
Michael - Ontario, Canada (September 2016)
I have stayed several times in this convent and would not want to stay anywhere else in Assisi. The sisters are very kind and the location is perfect. The beds are single and monastery standard.
Paul - New South Wales, Australia (September 2016)
This is a perfectly situated place to stay for easy access to the Basilica and all the other churches and sights in Assisi. The rooms are clean, simple and have their own ensuite and you can ask for a view of the Basilica. The sisters do not speak English, so if you have some Italian or want to practice your Italian, this is an added bonus. They were all, however, incredibly helpful. Entrance to the monastery is via an intercom service and there is a lift and wifi. All in all, an exceptional place to stay for value for money, security, centrality, and a small sense of what it might have been like to stay in a medieval monastery.
Darrelyn - Gloucestershire, United Kingdom (August 2016)
Fantastic venue a block from St Francis Basilica. Sisters were very helpful in arranging a driver for a side trip to Sansepulcro. Sisters have 3 WI FI connections but not available to guests. It would help with English speakers if WI FI was available and then we could use Google Translate.
Richard - WI, United States (June 2016)
Absolutely beautiful view. Rooms were immaculate and the nuns were very pleasant and accommodating. Wonderful hospitality. We loved it and hated to leave. Cannot describe the beauty of the view from our window. Heard the bells and birds of Assisi to wake us up every morning. We loved the nun at the front desk. Very sweet and kind. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Diana - MD, United States (May 2016)
Sister Claire and the other sisters were perfect hosts. None of them spoke any English yet were able to communicate patiently and warmly to us. We felt like they were all our mothers. As we left at 6 am Sister Claire arrived in the reception area with an expresso and pastry for us. Highly recommend San Andrea.
Michael - London, United Kingdom (May 2016)
All excellent. Room had balcony with a wonderful view.
Deborah - Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom (May 2016)
You can't do better! These lovely ladies were terrific. They even provided gluten free items for me, which was amazing.
The convent is as close to the cathedral as you can get. There are lots of decks and patios around the central courtyard which had lovely flowers.
There were very few guests, even though it was CalendaMaggio (the annual Medieval festival).
As seems to be common in Monasteries, the walls are paper thin and the doors slam. Bring ear plugs.
Karen - Alberta, Canada (May 2016)
Fantastic place - very friendly and cooperative.
Cathryn - , Switzerland (October 2015)
While they did not speak English, they were helpful made our stay enjoyable.
Christopher - IN, United States (October 2015)
We would definitely return. The location is adjacent to the Basilica of Saint Francis. The sisters were very kind and warm. The food is outstanding. The meals were always special and something we looked forward to. The meals were cooked Italian style. Rooms were clean and the ambiance of the monastery accented the spiritually rich climate of Assisi. We cannot wait to return and to be blessed by the hospitality of these dear sisters.
Rosetta - Ontario, Canada (September 2015)
Sisters were very welcoming.
Ann - Dublin, Ireland (July 2015)
The sisters do not speak English but are very kind and welcoming. The location is superb and if one has a room with a view of the basilica it is blissful (the other rooms overlook picturesque but relatively boring roof-tops). It is possible to park in the grounds and this makes rental car travel a viable option for Assisi and surrounding towns.
Paul - New South Wales, Australia (May 2015)
This is my 3rd time staying here - just a wonderful value, friendly Sisters and great location near Basilica San Francesco. My room had a beautiful view overlooking both the Umbrian Valley and the basilica.
Patrick - MI, United States (May 2014)
I had a wonderful stay, with an incredible view over the hills and hospitality of the utmost care and attention. Even though I was travelling alone and don't speak Italian I was made to feel very at home. I would whole-heartedly recommend staying here.
Emma - London, United Kingdom (May 2014)
My room had a fabulous view out over the plains of Assisi! Just up the hill from the main basilica, this would be an ideal location for someone wanting to attend early Mass every day. The Sisters were friendly and approachable, breakfast was standard Italian style. Room clean and comfortable.
Lynne - Canterbury, New Zealand (April 2014)
The Sisters were very, very helpful and gracious. The breakfasts were very satisfactory. The accommodations met our every need. We would recommend it without reservation.
Thomas - NJ, United States (March 2014)
Everything was excellent. The Sisters at S. Andrea were extraordinarily welcoming, helpful and fostered an extraordinary experience.
Alvin - MD, United States (December 2013)
Peaceful,serene surroundings.
Sisters were warm and welcoming.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
and hope one day to be fortunate enough to make a return visit.
Richard - New South Wales, Australia (November 2013)
This was my second time staying here and I will return again. The location is wonderful next to the Basilica di San Francesco with my room having a great view of the Umbrian valley. Tremendous value, location and safety were my priorities. The sisters, while not speaking much English, were very friendly and welcoming.
Patrick - MI, United States (June 2013)
Sisters were very cordial and considerate. We enjoyed Mass every morning with the Sisters. Breakfast was bland and would have liked more bread/pastry choices. Coffee was outstandingly good.
