Sondrio, apart from the amazing skiing opportunities, has a lovely palace (Palazzo Sassi), which is now a museum. There is also an ancient castle on the road out of the city towards Switzerland.

There are wines from the Valtelline Valley on offer, which includes a light red wine made from a type of Nebbiolo grape, as well as the Valtellinese, a Lombardian specialty.
