History
The Padri Trinitari Order was formed in 1198. The guest house was built as part of the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci in 1694. It has a facade designed in 1727 under Pope Benedict XIII, probably designed by Filippo Raguzzini.
In the year 2000, the house was completely renovated.
Customer Reviews
Staff were helpful, thanks.
Christina - Malta, Malta (June 2024)
The location was just right where I wanted for my stay-- walking distance to St. Peter's Square and in a quiet area next to a Title Church where daily mass is more than accessible ... The staff do try to cater to your needs and have been helpful, even if sometimes communication was a struggle with the language barrier but nothing that can't be rectified by Google Translate. I would definitely return to Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci at whatever time of the year.
Allan Jay - ON, Canada (June 2024)
Wonderful experience in every way. Friendly, helpful, spotless, private, quiet, nice breakfast!
Barbara - , New Zealand (June 2024)
Great location, great staff, very secure.
Ofelia - FL, United States (April 2024)
The breakfast is fabulous, so much variety and all fresh. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable.
Michelle - British Columbia, Canada (August 2019)
The staff were very accommodating. Good breakfast, clean rooms, comfortable beds, great air conditioning. They even assisted me in getting the tickets for the Papal Audience as I was not able to pick them up at the required time since the group and I went to Pompeii on that day. Much appreciated.
Lana - CA, USA (June 2019)
Staff was very helpful, breakfast was terrific, large selection of items to eat!
Betty - CA, United States (October 2018)
If you travel into Rome via the train station, you can purchase a daily or multiple day city bus transport ticket at a tobacco or magazine shop. Then take bus 64 to the Monastery. The closet bus stop is about a 5 minute walk to the monastery. The monastery was a 15 minute walk from the Vatican, Great location.
Linda - VA, United States (September 2018)
The location couldn't have been any better. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding. Lots of variety and tasty.
Christine - MI, United States (August 2018)
They have and are in the process of refurbishing the rooms and they are great! Still very simple, but bright and good bathrooms.
Wendy - GA, United States (March 2018)
None at all. The room was spartan but we expected that. Location was so good for what we wanted to see. Safe and charming neighbourhood.
Reginald - BC, Canada (October 2017)
The breakfast was fantastic....plenty of choice and lots of food!
Paulette - Alberta, Canada (July 2016)
The location was great and the breakfast was very good! It was clean and the staff were helpful. They let me store my luggage when I took a short trip to Florence & Assisi. I would stay there again.
Kathy - Ontario, Canada (July 2016)
I was very happy with my stay at Casa Santa Maria.
Rev. John - Ireland, Ireland (September 2015)
Super! The location - in a relatively tranquil piazza just blocks from the Vatican - can't be beat. Right next to a church. Several shops, cafes, and restaurants are close by, so you don't have to venture far. The Casa offers functional accommodation, but undoubtedly nice, clean, and quiet.
Brian - NY, United States (June 2015)
Very nice clean and comfortable.
Nadine - British Columbia, Canada (April 2015)
Overall it was a very pleasant stay. We went to Rome to participate in all the Holy Week liturgical services and the location was perfect.
Milena - AR, United States (April 2014)
Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci was EXACTLY as portrayed in their literature. The reception staff were helpful and also at the reception desk. The continental breakfast was good, with plenty items available. We could see the Vatican from our window (just), with just five minutes walk to the Vatican. The 64 bus was just two streets away and the metro about 10 minutes walk.
Monica - Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom (March 2014)
Good location, accommodation clean, tidy, quiet. Yes, bedroom facilities were basic, but that is all I needed. Free wi-fi much appreciated, and availability of lounge area and books was nice on a dark wet evening. Would certainly return again, and would recommend to others.
Jean - , United Kingdom (November 2013)
We loved staying here! It was so convenient and in a safe neighborhood. It is a 10-12 minute walk to Saint Peter square and another 10-12 minute walk to the metro from there. You go through the square everyday to get to the metro which is nice. The walls are a little thin but you will be so tired it won't matter. The breakfast was adequate (yogurt, cold cuts, bread and pastries) and the coffee was yummy. I would highly recommend this guest house.
Ruth - GA, United States (October 2013)
Loved the breakfasts.
C Lynn - Alberta, Canada (September 2013)
The young men at the front desk were very helpful to myself and my husband. They have a very good knowledge of the area around the monastery. Thanks for the experience!
Nancy - NE, United States (September 2013)
Grazie!
Hugh - Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (July 2013)
Very nice and close to Vatican.
Kirk - South Australia, Australia (December 2012)
We found the quiet atmosphere to be restful. The location near the Vatican worked well for us. We picked up bus 64 only two blocks from the monastery and could take it to all the major sights and Termini Train Station.
Katrina - VA, United States (June 2012)
Room was very nice with a great location. Shower could use some sort of nozzle to direct the stream of water, but is not a "deal breaker." Breakfast staff was exceptionally cheerful, attentive and positive, a real asset to our positive experience.
Karen - WA, United States (April 2012)
Two people from the reception desk were not particularly helpful and could have smiled a little more. We were a little mislead as to how best to get to the Colosseum and consequently missed our very much anticipated tour! We were also told we didn't have wifi available in the room, but on our 2nd last night were told we did, by another reception person who was helpful. The breakfast was ample. The location was about a 10 minute walk to the Vatican, with restaurants, cafes and laundromat close by. The housekeeping staff smoked on our floor which was off putting being non-smokers.
Zorka - Victoria, Australia (September 2011)
Excellent...excellent.....excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beverly - OH, United States (June 2011)
A fantastic place to stay close to the Vatican.
Trevor - Victoria, Australia (April 2011)
Its location near St. Peters Basilica and the Roma San Pietro train station. A false fire alarm went off during the night.
Norman - NH, United States (May 2010)
The room was spotless, comfortable and modern. The monastery had more amenities (security boxes, internet, vending machine) than advertised. Very good location, quiet, very, very clean. Run very professionally and with basic but nice amenities. The breakfast was also excellent. There is a playground behind the church which could be a bit noisy at times, but not late at night or early in the morning, so it was not an issue.
Pamela - CA, United States (May 2009)
Location, very small shower.
Barbara - Victoria, Australia (October 2008)
The location was perfect; the staff were helpful and courteous, breakfast was excellent and cleaned every day. What more can one ask for? The shower was way too small and would have been improved with just a sliding door, it was an annoyance that put a dull edge to a sharp stay; the temperature was 27C and we would have liked to have the air conditioning available but it was switched off.
Joseph - Northern Ireland, United Kingdom (October 2008)
Considering the hotel prices in Europe, it was nice to have this place to stay. They were nice facilities. very good condition of the rooms, location, helpful staff, tourist info.
