Casa Santa Sofia is a beautifully presented guest house, offering great hospitality with the Colosseum only a short walk from your front door. One of the best offerings in Rome.
Ideally located to all the sites of central Rome, the Colosseum and Roman Forum are at short walk close by.

Not luxurious but I would happily stay there again.

Not luxurious but I would happily stay there again.
Fredericka - VA, United States (September 2018)
We had a good experience. The room is what we expected, simple and clean. Same with the breakfast simple and good except for the lack of any fruit, it would be perfect. Only complaint is difficulty to bring luggage up/down steps and taxi cannot pull up to the entrance.
Alfredo - NY, United States (September 2018)
Great experience.
Stan - TN, USA (July 2018)
Great location, very close to places of interest. Very good night live for eating and drinking. Nice and quiet place to have a good night sleep.
H. David - TX, United States (June 2018)
This is right in the heart of Rome, close to the Colosseum.
Service was excellent, and they helped us get a taxi to the airport.
Camille - UT, United States (June 2018)
Great staff and delicious breakfast! We will definitely be coming back.
Heidi - UT, USA (June 2018)
The location was fantastic and staff were really friendly.
Michelle - , United Kingdom (January 2018)
Perfect.
Vincent - , France (January 2018)
Our 23 students loved Casa Santa Sofia. The location was perfect for our 3 week stay in Rome, and the students felt comfortable and safe in their impeccably clean rooms. We enjoyed gathering on the ground floor each day before setting out on our adventures, and the meeting room was perfect for our evening classes as well. I hope we are able to stay at Casa Santa Sofia during future Rome travel trips!
Elise Schweitzer - VA, USA (January 2018)
It was excellent, and terrific value. I'll definitely use it again.
John S - , United Kingdom (November 2017)
Perfect location for those who wish to visit Roma Antica. Charming piazza. Had a single room, quite small but good sleeping. Italian breakfast. Lots of restaurants in the neighbourhood. Walking distance to Termini. Recommended.
Danielle - Quebec, Canada (October 2017)
We had a wonderful time. The only surprise was the size of the rooms and the bathrooms. They are exceptionally small.
Lisette - , France (October 2017)
Great place to stay, especially the location which was only a few hundred metres from the Colosseum.
Pauline - Vic, Australia (October 2017)
Excellent location, nice breakfast, we really enjoyed our stay in Rome.
Ian - , United Kingdom (October 2017)
Great location to walk to all of the sights in Rome. 2 blocks from the Colosseum.....rather noisy on a weekend but we didn't expect piece and quiet here. Very basic rooms and breakfast but met our needs.
Brenda - Saskatchewan, Canada (October 2017)
Very well located, with restaurants and bars at the Piazza. On the other hand, it may be noisy at night.
Cecilia - SP, Brazil (September 2017)
Great location.
Debra - SA, Australia (September 2017)
Very helpful friendly staff.
John - , United Kingdom (September 2017)
We loved our stay at Casa Santa Sofia. Rooms are basic, as expected (this is not a 5 star hotel), but comfortable. The nuns were delightful, caring and efficient in their service, and made our stay in Rome just that little more special. The location of Casa Santa Sofia is excellent, walking distance to major tourist sights such as the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill, as well as many lovely churches and restaurants in the local area. The Piazza outside can be busy and noisy at night, but did not affect our sleep at all. Breakfast is a continental breakfast, with choices of cereals, breads & jams, pastries, milk, juices and coffee/tea, nothing special but an adequate start to the day. Addition of a choice of fruit would be a suggestion, or guests may BYO.
Peter - QLD, Australia (September 2017)
Lovely staff and building. Air conditioning was amazing after a hot day of walking in Rome. Very close to coliseum and sights. Small but clean and comfy beds. The square outside is a bit noisy in the evenings due to cafes etc but the air conditioning and fan drowned it out. Would be quite noisy to sleep otherwise but the convenience of walking out the door to major sights was worth it. Would stay again :) breakfast was lovely
Joanne - ON, Canada (August 2017)
I'd readily stay at Casa Santa Sofia again. Its main asset is its perfect location in a highly attractive and fascinating neighbourhood. One of the sisters at the desk was amazingly welcoming and helpful.
Andrzej - ON, Canada (August 2017)
What a wonderful experience! The location could not be better. I was able to walk to most of the locations I wanted to visit in Rome, and was able to easily access public transportation for the sights that were farther away. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe staying here, and everything was very comfortable. The sisters were incredibly generous and accommodating and I would stay here again if I'm fortunate enough to visit Rome again.
Kaitlyn - MT, United States (August 2017)
Wonderful! Fantastic location, very clean.
Would be good if they provided a kettle for guests to use.
Joanne - MD, United States (August 2017)
This is the most wonderful place to stay when visiting Rome. The location is astonishing: a genuine five minute walk to the Colosseum and easy walking distance to every wonderful treat Rome has in store. Considering the location, the value is exceptional. The service at the convent was grand; our flight was delayed and we arrived after check-in time, but the staff had been kind enough to provide us with the entry code in advance and we had no problem at all. The room was simple but elegant and well-appointed. One of our beds had an uncomfortable mattress, but other than that everything was perfect. I shall definitely stay here again when I'm next in Rome.
Benedict - , United Kingdom (August 2017)
Very friendly.
Martin - WestLothian, United Kingdom (July 2017)
This stay was very nice and central to many sights in Rome. The view of the piazza was great but the noise from the piazza made it difficult to sleep when the windows were open. All in all it was a lovely stay.
Kathaleen - MD, United States (May 2017)
Truely in a great, central location! I wasn't even aware before I got to Casa Santa Sofia how close it is to many major tourist attractions (e.g. Colosseum or Forum Romanum) and as well to Termini Train Station. The Ukrainian Sisters were really welcoming and the breakfast was amazing!!
Sebastian - , Germany (October 2016)
This was an excellent place to stay- warm welcome, really helpful community, amazing location for walking to all major Rome attractions. It is near to excellent restaurants and easily accessible from Termini station. The breakfast is simple but more than adequate and the whole place is immaculately clean.
Michael - Ontario, Canada (October 2016)
It was a lovely place. Great location. Staff was very helpful.
Christine - British Columbia, Canada (September 2016)
We really enjoyed our stay would definitely recommend Casa Santa Sofia, perfect location and the local atmosphere was great. Our room was in a rear room which was very quiet.
wayne - NSW, Australia (September 2016)
It is vey well located! Also, everyone is very friendly and welcoming
Rosa - IL, United States (September 2016)
Great service, very warm and welcoming people. Rooms tidied up every day.
Jean-Christophe - , Belgium (September 2016)
Excellent place to stay.
Fred - New South Wales, Australia (August 2016)
Sisters are friendly and helpful. The location is great as it is minutes away from the subway station, colosseum, St. Peter's in Chain Basilica and St. Clement Basilica. Just a bit noisy at weekend nights.
Daisy - Ontario, Canada (May 2016)
Most enjoyable.
Teresa - , United Kingdom (March 2016)
Everything was great! From the kindness of the Sisters and the personnel to the location! We travelled with an 17 months old baby and he was feeling like at home. Thank you very much for everything, we are definitely coming back!
Maria - Luxembourg, Luxembourg (March 2016)
16 college age students truly enjoyed their 20 night stay at Casa Santa Sofia. They felt very safe and very comfortable. They also valued the unique qualities of the experience, feeling like a part of a community and a part of the neighborhood in a way that they wouldn't have if they were staying in a normal hotel.
Elise - VA, USA (January 2016)
Located in my favourite part of Rome. My second stay there.
Gregory - Queensland, Australia (October 2015)
We absolutely loved it here! Everyone was friendly & polite. Our rooms were tidied up each day. The continental breakfast with fancy coffee choices was wonderful. Also, it was nice to have the option to pay extra for air conditioning - my mother did for her room, but I did not. Location was perfect - short walking distance to both the Colosseum and Forum.
Marianne - OR, United States (August 2015)
Just a fantastic place to stay, handy to public transport in a delightful piazza full of the delights of Rome! The staff were very helpful, the breakfast set us up for the day and the local restaurants provided great food at good prices.
Paul - , New Zealand (July 2015)
The location is perfect and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Breakfast offering would gain a lot by having slices of fresh meat and cheese.
Frans - , Netherlands (October 2014)
Ideally placed in a charming piazza very close to the Colisseum. The rooms are simple but fine, the sisters absolutely charming and very helpful, very good breakfast. Only disadvantage is the noise factor at night but that's everywhere in Rome, not only in this area, it's not really a problem. We will definately go back to the same hotel another time.
Enid - , France (September 2014)
It was our great stay in Rome; the staff are very helpful, he even gave a quick Italian lesson for me to learn some key words in travelling in Italy - it was our very first stop in Italy. The nuns are very kind. All the setting in the monastery are simple and beautiful. The room very clean, the people who do the cleaning do excellent job. Perhaps the incense used in the monastery, there is a very light, gentle and natural fragrant in the air and it is so pleasant when we walk back to the monastery after a tiring day from visiting outside. I also really like the atmosphere of the monastery - sincere, dignify and simple, although we are not, in a formal sense of, Catholics.
Breakfast is very nice with choices. Both my daughter and I are vegan, the nun who in charge was very kind to accommodate with our diet. They even have a bit gluten free food. The staff who taught me Italian introduced me a place where simple vegan food are offered and it was just around the corner. The location is excellent, walking distance to Colosseum, and many tourist attraction sites, and very close to metro. We are very happy for our stays; we would like to stay the same monastery should we one day, we'd very much hope so, will revisit Rome again and happily to recommend it to our friends.
The only thing that if we wish to change is that our room is by the street, and there is a restaurant right cross the street. In the evening, it could be a bit noisy. But once the window closed, it is just fine.
Han - Ontario, Canada (August 2014)
Thanks for a wonderful peaceful time.
Charles - NJ, United States (July 2014)
This is a perfect location to see many of the sites like the coliseum, forum, Altara della Patria, and Capitoline Hill. Also in walking distance to many other sites and the metro is one block away for further away sites. I did rate the sleep quality lower because it is in a well visited piazza that gets very noisy at all hours of the night, but I would stay here again in spite of that.
Mary Cay - TN, United States (April 2014)
Wonderful experience. Could not have asked for more.
Barbra - IL, United States (April 2014)
Beautiful, clean, very helpful staff and sisters. Highly recommended!
Claire - Nova Scotia, Canada (January 2014)
Clearly very good, easy, quiet, near of all.
Dominique - Centre, France (November 2013)
Great facilities, with excellent breakfast and Wi-Fi.
Karel - Auckland, New Zealand (September 2013)
Shower was very small but otherwise a perfect stay. Location excellent! Staff friendly and very helpful. Will come back!
Jane - OH, United States (September 2013)
The sisters were very welcoming.
The - Devon, United Kingdom (September 2013)
Fantastic accommodation, a short walk to the Colosseum. No loud traffic, no crowds at night. No complaints at all.
Shannyn - Queensland, Australia (August 2013)
The location is phenomenal. It just doesn't get better than this...especially for the price. The piazza in front of the Casa has a heavy nightlife until about 3am. They booked us for a room in the back without our asking. The breakfast was quite sufficient to pull us through until lunch.
Michele Monique - Pavia, Italy (July 2013)
Fantastic.
Carol - TX, United States (July 2013)
A haven of peace.
Margaret - Hampshire, United Kingdom (May 2013)
I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Santa Sofia. The rooms were very clean, the location is great, and compared to other Bed and Breakfasts or pensions, the breakfasts are large by Italian standards.
Bohdan - CT, United States (May 2013)
Excellent location within walking distance of Roma Termini and Metro Cavour close by and major Roman sites. Numerous cafes nearby. Casa Santa Sofia provided everything I needed. Would stay again.
Sarah - Devon, United Kingdom (April 2013)
Excellent value for money. Good location - very close to Forum and Santa Maria Maggiore, with perfect connections by underground. Clean rooms with internet. Staff was helpful and no curfew was imposed (you get the key to the main door). The breakfast however reminded that we were in Italy - there was a buffet with small variety of things, but sweet products (sweet rolls, jams etc.) dominated and it did not contain cheese nor sausages.
Michal - Wielkopolskie, Poland (September 2012)
Everything was absolutely wonderful. The sisters were extremely hospitable and kind and the room was immaculately clean.
Meredith - NY, United States (June 2012)
I do recommend that you request a room NOT facing the square as it is a lovely, very active area into the night. Everyone was so helpful and kind and the continental breakfast was perfect.
Norma - TX, United States (May 2012)
Great location and very clean and up to date.
W - OH, United States (April 2012)
In general, the location was the best part of this place; I walked everywhere. The lack of some basic amenities like a small fridge, electric jug and safe makes me think twice about staying here again. Wifi was on and off. Sisters very nice even though spoke little or no English. Breakfast very basic and not the sort that Australians or Americans are used to, so be warned; I provided my own and still paid for the other. Also, it is very late starting at 8am hence any day tours booked that start early, you'll have to provide your own.
Bruce - Victoria, Australia (July 2011)
The people I worked with at the location did not speak English very well, so knowing some Italian could prove beneficial.
Rachel - WI, United States (June 2011)
Faces noisy restaurants and square at night. Earplugs essential - room may get too stuffy if weather hot and you need to close windows to block sound. But otherwise very nice location and nice clean room.
John - KY, United States (June 2011)
I enjoyed my stay. Excellent location
Stephanie - Victoria, Australia (May 2011)
Great location, very clean, very nice people.
Ivana - , Australia (September 2010)
Great location, friendly and hospitable service, clean rooms, reasonably priced The only slight negative was the breakfast, which turned out to be just one giant bread roll and hot drinks.
Martin - , United Kingdom (September 2010)
The ambience, the chapel, the nuns, the fountain outside, the bathroom inside the room, very clean. It was great for us but older people might find it noisy outside into the wee hours.
Milagros - NV, United States (September 2010)
The friendly people, helpful restaurant recommendatoins, etc. I liked every bit of my stay. I'd stay there again, myself.
James - KS, USA (September 2010)
The location was fantastic and they were very accommodating for my arrival and departure times. The staff were very friendly and willing to work with my arrival and departure times.
Juan - CA, United States (May 2010)
It was well located, and had adequate facilities. Breakfast was a bit dull. It was noisy at night, but that is to be expected of a central location in Rome.
Richard H - Essex, United Kingdom (October 2009)
Cleanliness, friendly helpful people. Lots of everyday people in the piazza outside throughout the day. Breakfast juice was tang, no cereal available, coffee was Nescafe.
Doug - Ontario, Canada (September 2009)
The location was excellent and the price was great. Housekeeping left a little to be desired, but overall was good. No towels or service on Sunday.
Constance Joan - AZ, USA (September 2009)
I knew it would be basic but breakfast was truly awful!A roll, butter, jam and Nescafe coffee!!
Judith - South Australia, Australia (October 2008)
I was very pleased with the cleanliness and location.
Theresa - NY, United States (October 2008)
Ideal location, safe, clean, right price.
Raisa - Quebec, Canada (October 2008)
It was clean and the room was quite adequate. Staff was very helpful. It was noisy. (My room was on the first floor overlooking several outdoor restaurants). Breakfast was minimal, but adequate given the low cost of the room. The room was very good for the price.
Diane - CA, United States (September 2008)
The breakfast was the disappointment. The room was clean as was the bathroom. The staff helpful and pleasant. The location was good.
Gray - VA, United States (July 2008)
Fortunately I did not have a preconceived idea of what this experience would be. The location was good; we were just blocks from the Colosseum and the nuns were helpful; the beds were comfortable it was on a piazza and it was the night before a national holiday. It was difficult to sleep and we can sleep almost anywhere.
Edna - NJ, United States (June 2008)
I wasn't expecting much. It was close to Colosseum. There was a place to use the internet less than 1/2 block away. Several restaurants within 2 blocks. Metro stop 2 blks. Bus stop on the side of the convent. Small twin beds. Breakfast, roll, small cream cheese, jams, orange juice. No fruit. Same roll everyday. Just changed towels, no making beds or cleaning.
Elsie - FL, United States (May 2008)
The room was clean, it had a good sized armoire/closet, and the bathroom was in good clean, adequately spaced, and functional. It was also two blocks from the Metro stop so it provided great access to the main public transit arterials. There was very little interaction with the nuns which is not what I had hoped for. I had hoped they could speak a little more english so we could interact and visit. It was simply a place to sleep and nothing more.
Jay - MN, United States (May 2008)
The location. Besides the tariff, being close to the classicatl sites & museums, a subway station and a bus service, the key attraction was it's position on a piazza. The piazza dei monti was a window on the locals in that part of Rome. Quietely busy - but away from the crowds or too many tourists. Basic rooms - but expected that. Very clean, good servicing of rooms. But some might have issues if they were in rooms facing the piazza - the locals noisily drank on in a cafe/bar on the piazza until midnight. But this was no problem for me - in fact, it enhanced the atmosphere.
