House of the Suore Brigidine dell'Eremo Camaldolese
Offering a peaceful retreat in the hills surrounding Naples, the lodging has a lovely large garden for relaxation and quiet reflection. Perfect balance between nature and the many sights of a big city.
A short trip into the city center will give guests access to some great tourist destinations, including Piazza del Plebiscito, the main square in the center of Naples.
Rated 3.9 out of 5
The location was breathtakingly beautiful, but it was far away by taxi. We didn't try public transportation. The nuns were friendly and spoke English fairly well however, both mornings, we had a hard time getting out of the gate as we couldn't find anyone to open the locked gate to let us out even after asking the night before. We stayed for an evening meal and it was wonderful! The rooms were very rustic, (and the beds hard) but that was part of the adventure. We would stay again and recommend it to some friends who could appreciate the beauty but not mind the rustic rooms.
This convent is operated by the Suore Brigidine dell'Eremo Camaldolese.
The large complex is tranquil and has a friendly atmosphere about it.
A small store inside the monastery sells local produce such as honey, confectionery, chocolate and liqueur.

History
The monastery was founded in 1585 by Giovanni d' Avalos, son of Alfonso of Aragon, Marquis of the Immense One. After the Napoleonic abolition of monasteries and those of the Italian government, it was reopened in 1885. For 400 years it was a Camaldolese monastery founded by San Romualdo.

The monastery was beautiful and the nuns were very warm and hospitable. It was in a beautiful location and was completely self contained. There were security gates for our protection and safety. Meals were provided at an additional cost. It was at the highest point in Naples which afforded a gorgeous view, but it was quite far away from everything. We needed to hire a taxi when we wanted to go on a day excursion.
