The site of the accommodation and surrounding buildings was the site of a miracle during the 12th century and it is one of the most popular pilgrimage site's in Italy.

The convent is just outside the town of Avezzano. It is easier to access the convent from Avezzano. The convent sits on a hill 1000 metres above sea level overlooking Avezzano to the east.

The accommodation building was added to the religious complex in the 1950's. Pope John Paul II slept regularly at this guesthouse.
